Crimsafe vs Other Security Screen Brands: A Practical Comparison

If you are researching security screens, you have probably come across more than one brand name. Crimsafe, Prowler Proof, Invisi-Gard, SecureView, ArmourX – they all sell stainless steel mesh security screens for residential homes, and they all claim to be the best. This page is an honest comparison of how they actually differ, written by an authorised Crimsafe installer who has worked with Crimsafe for over 25 years.

Securelux installs Crimsafe. We are not impartial. But this comparison is factual and evidence-based, drawing on the published specifications and independent testing of each product. Where Crimsafe has clear advantages, we will say so. Where it has trade-offs, we will say so too.

The Four Most Common Crimsafe Alternatives

Prowler Proof

Prowler Proof uses Meshtec mesh, a perforated stainless steel sheet rather than a woven mesh. The mesh is fixed to the frame using a wedge system that compresses the mesh into a channel. Prowler Proof has its own published impact testing and warranty terms. It is most often compared to Crimsafe on coastal performance and is frequently cited in coastal corrosion discussions.

Invisi-Gard

Invisi-Gard uses a marine-grade 316 stainless steel woven mesh fixed using a clamp system similar in principle to Crimsafe’s, though with different proprietary engineering. Marketed primarily on its 316 mesh as a corrosion advantage. Common alternative considered by buyers in beachfront and salt-spray-exposed locations.

SecureView (formerly Amplimesh)

SecureView, the rebranded Amplimesh product, uses a perforated aluminium sheet rather than stainless steel mesh. The pattern is sometimes referred to as a “diamond grille” but with finer perforations than older grille products. Lower price point than woven stainless steel options. Often found on older homes and as a budget alternative to Crimsafe.

ArmourX

ArmourX uses a stainless steel woven mesh fixed using a different proprietary clamping method. Markets itself as meeting Australian Standards for security screens and provides its own warranty terms. Less commonly seen in Brisbane than Crimsafe or Prowler Proof but appears as a comparison option.

What the Testing Standards Actually Mean

Australian Standards AS5039 and AS5040 set minimum requirements for security screen products to be classified as such. Every product on this comparison passes the minimum AS5039/5040 testing for knife shear, dynamic impact, jemmy attack, pull, and probe.

Beyond the minimum, Crimsafe has been independently tested at the University of Queensland and withstands singular impacts of up to 550 joules for Crimsafe Regular and 750 joules for Crimsafe Ultimate – more than five times the Australian Standard. Other brands publish their own testing results, but the Australian Standard pass is the common floor; the impact ratings beyond that vary by product.

In short: every product here will keep an opportunistic intruder out for the time it takes them to give up. The differences become meaningful in determined, sustained attacks and in the long-term performance of the product.

Where Each Product Is Strong

Crimsafe.

Highest published impact resistance under independent testing. Patented Screw-Clamp method (mechanical fastening, not glue or wedge). Comprehensive corrosion-resistance system (coating + Tef-Gel + Santoprene insulation). Long warranty. Largest licensee network with consistent product availability.

Prowler Proof.

Perforated sheet construction creates a different visual aesthetic some homeowners prefer. Strong coastal marketing presence.

Invisi-Gard.

316 marine-grade base mesh appeals to buyers who specifically want 316 stainless steel for direct beachfront properties.

SecureView.

Lower price point than stainless steel woven mesh products. Available where budget is the primary constraint and accepting a different security and durability profile is acceptable.

Where Each Product Has Trade-Offs

Crimsafe.

Higher upfront price than perforated sheet products. Uses 304 stainless steel base mesh, which requires the multi-layer corrosion system to perform in coastal conditions (the system works – see the Crimsafe coastal page – but it is a system rather than relying on inherent material chloride resistance).

Prowler Proof.

Wedge-based fixing systems can be more vulnerable to high-force impact at the wedge location compared to mechanical screw-clamping. Visual style is a matter of preference.

Invisi-Gard.

316 mesh is typically thinner than Crimsafe’s 304, with lower tensile strength. The 316 advantage on raw corrosion is real, but the strength trade-off is also real.

SecureView.

Aluminium-based products do not match the impact resistance or durability of stainless steel woven mesh products. Suitable for lower-risk applications.

The Honest Conclusion

For most Brisbane and South East Queensland homes, the difference between the top stainless steel mesh products is smaller than the marketing suggests. Any of them will perform in real-world conditions if installed correctly. The bigger variable is the installation, the accessories, and the after-sales support – not the mesh material.

Securelux installs Crimsafe because Crimsafe’s combination of impact testing, mechanical fixing system, corrosion engineering, warranty terms, and Australian-made manufacturing aligns most closely with the workmanship standard Securelux is built around. We are an authorised Crimsafe licensee, not because of brand loyalty, but because we are confident in the engineering and the supply chain.

If you have already had quotes for other brands and want a Crimsafe quote for comparison, Securelux is happy to provide one. If, after the comparison, another brand suits you better, we will tell you.

The brand name on the screen matters less than the standard of the installation behind it. A Crimsafe screen poorly installed performs worse than a competitor’s product properly installed.
